Product Description
Just the Facts: The Emergence of Modern America uses fascinating historical footage to explore six decades that shaped modern America. The series examines the Gilded Age in the late 19th century, the Progressive Era of the early 20th century, the Roaring Twenties, and the Great Depression. This program explores our history and culture during the early 20th century, when a wave of reforms changed our political system and attempted to remedy the social and economic inequities arising from industrialization and urbanization. Progressive President Theodore Roosevelt helped set the tone of the era by supporting regulation of industry, initiating government reforms, and promoting conservation of public lands. The Progressive Era altered the course of our history in many ways, including the strengthening of labor unions, political and election reforms, and imposition of the first federal income tax on Americans.

Product Description
Part of Teddy Roosevelt’s dream of making America a world global power was realized through the Panama Canal. The French began construction in 1880, but nine years and 20,000 lives later they realized their plans were flawed and abandoned the project. It took the inventive American’s to discover a way to link the oceans.

First, the diseases that attacked the workers had to be controlled. Then, an innovative design for a series of locks was developed. Finally, the dogged determination and backbreaking toil of the Americans was rewarded when the Atlantic and Pacific oceans were united on January 7, 1914. Here is the complete, exciting story, from conception to completion, of one of the most important achievements of the 20th century.
